Prep Center in China for MercadoLibre Full

A prep center prepares your goods at origin so they enter the MercadoLibre Full warehouse directly, with no additional handling. Doing it in China costs a fraction of doing it in Mexico and, more importantly, avoids the most expensive scenario: cargo arriving at the distribution centre and being rejected for labelling or packaging that does not meet the specification.

Once the goods leave China, fixing a labelling error means recovering the cargo, relabelling it and shipping it again. Fixing it in Shenzhen, at our MercadoLibre Full prep center, takes minutes.

What has to be prepared

SKU label per unit. Every unit needs the label with the SKU that matches the listing, readable by a barcode scanner and on a visible face. It cannot cover mandatory product information or the product’s legal labelling.

Scan verification. Printing and sticking the label on is not enough. Every label goes through a scanner to confirm it reads on the first pass. A creased label, one with poor contrast, or one stuck on a curved surface is a rejection waiting to happen.

Packaging to specification. Individual packaging must protect the product and meet the platform’s requirements: bags with the warning where applicable, boxes within weight and size limits, and a scannable unit without opening the master carton.

Master carton and pallet labelling. Each master carton with its identification, and the pallet labelled when volume allows.

Actual measurements and weight. Verify real weight and dimensions per unit and per carton, so that what is declared matches what will arrive. A discrepancy between declared and actual is a frequent cause of incidents at the warehouse, and it is one of the first things a pre-shipment quality inspection catches.

The five most common reasons for rejection

1. A barcode that does not scan. Low-quality printing, insufficient contrast or a creased label.
2. A label that does not match the listing. SKU assigned incorrectly, or a product that changed variant and the label was not updated.
3. Declared weight or size different from the actual one. This usually happens when the manufacturer’s weight is declared instead of the weight of the repackaged product.
4. Packaging that does not meet the specification. Missing bag, missing warning, or a box over the limit.
5. A label that covers mandatory information. The product’s legal labelling has to remain visible.

All five are detected before shipping. None of them can be detected with the cargo already at destination without paying the full cost.

Why do it in China and not in Mexico

Labour cost. The per-unit rate in China is a fraction of the Mexican one.

Dead time put to use. Prep happens while the goods wait for the rest of the shipment to be consolidated. It does not add days to the calendar; it overlaps with the wait you were going to have anyway.

No extra storage. Preparing at destination means storing the goods during the preparation process, and that gets billed.

A single movement. If you prepare in China, the cargo reaches the MercadoLibre warehouse directly from the port, with door-to-door shipping to Mexico. If you prepare in Mexico, there is an extra movement port → your warehouse → marketplace warehouse.

Cheap correction. If something is wrong, it is fixed before it leaves.

What we need to prepare your shipment

• The MercadoLibre listing already created, or at least the final SKU for each variant.
• The packaging specification the platform requires for your category.
• The list of which product goes in which carton, if the order includes several references.
• If you are assembling kits or bundles, the exact composition of each set.

With that we prepare, verify with a scanner and send you photographs of the result before closing the shipment.

One detail that gets overlooked

The prep center is also where the volume you will pay for in freight is optimised. A product whose factory packaging is an oversized box can reduce its billable volume by swapping it for a snug one. In light and bulky products, that reduction is usually between 20% and 40%, and it translates directly into a smaller freight invoice.

In other words: the prep center is not just a labelling service. It is the last point where you can still lower the logistics cost of the shipment before it becomes a closed number.
